Stuart tried to turn his head away but Evelyn wouldn’t let him. “What’s got into you? Oi, look at me,” he said. “We will get married. We will bond. We just need to get through this farcical little social circus, hmm? Don’t let those people get to you.”
Stuart had to bite back his retort, That’s not what worries me.
“Come to bed,” urged Evelyn, tipping his nose to brush against Stuart’s. “God knows we’re both exhausted.”
Stuart said nothing, merely turned his face a fraction so that his lips met Evelyn’s.
From the start, the kiss was not gentle. It was a thing filled with desperation. Still, Evelyn kissed him back hungrily, groaning at the feel of Stuart’s hands, hard on his body.
“Elliot,” Evelyn finally said as he was tipped back against the edge of the billiards table. “Slow down, love.”
“Here,” rasped Stuart. “Let’s do it here. The bedrooms are a long way off.”
“Elliot, wait,” said Evelyn, letting out a noise of surprise as Stuart turned him around so that he was bent over, sprawled on the table.
Stuart pressed himself against the length of Evelyn’s back, holding him in place with one hand while with the other, he gathered Evelyn’s hair in a fist as he bent down to place a kiss on his nape, the side of his neck, behind his ear.
Is this what you want, Eve? Is this the kind of treatment you might envision getting from that bastard?
“Elliot! What the fuck!” Evelyn barked, stiffening in Stuart’s arms and fairly tearing himself away from his hold, but not before Stuart caught a glimpse of the mark behind Evelyn’s right ear.
A small, semicircular scar made by human teeth.
